Serving Pilgrims for Over 900 years.
The U.S. Associations of the Order of Malta continue our long tradition of serving pilgrims through the operation of the Hospitality and First Aid Center at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help.
Also called the Champion Shrine, the Shrine is located in Champion, WI, which is located 20 miles northeast of Green Bay. The Center’s mission is to promote the spiritual and physical welfare of pilgrims while they are on pilgrimage to the Shrine.
The Hospitality and First Aid Center will be open during the days of major activity at the Shrine. Members are invited and encouraged to volunteer to serve on these days.
During the days when the Center is open, medical professionals and hospitality volunteers from the Order will staff the Center. In keeping with the Order’s charism over more than nine centuries as the Order of Hospitallers, Knights and Dames of the Order of Malta will offer hospitality and provide first aid assistance, promoting the spiritual and physical welfare of pilgrims at the Shrine.
History
In 2010, the Bishop of Green Bay, the Most Rev. David L. Ricken approved Adele Brise’s 1859 Marian Apparitions after a lengthy study of eyewitness testimony and records.
The National Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help is the first and only approved Marian apparition site in the United States.
The Order of Malta’s relationship with the Shrine started when several members of the Federal Association visited in 2013. Since then, the three US Associations have jointly gathered on an annual four-day pilgrimage at the Shrine in the first week of August. Participation in the pilgrimage is coordinated through each Association’s office.
The Order of Malta’s support of the Shrine led to the establishment in 2019 of a Hospitality and First Aid Center.
